Profile

As the managing partner for the EY energy market segment, Lance’s leadership responsibilities include oil and gas, power and utilities and mining sectors across Canada. Lance support’s the team drive the growth of key client accounts. This is enabled by integrating EY offerings and go-to-market approach, deal strategies and shaping, and developing innovative solutions and assets to serve our clients in new value-add ways. Furthermore, as part of his role, Lance coordinates future thinking in terms of energy business trends, uncertainties, risks and opportunities and the external branding of EY in the market. 

As a strategy practitioner working with the c-suite Lance has provided management consulting services on 157 projects to +60 clients in 11 countries. He brings a broad set of strategic skills and experiences, helping clients solve some of their most complex strategic problems. Areas of support and expertise include corporate and business unit strategy and planning, strategy execution, market opportunity assessment, merger and transaction integration and carve-outs ($60 Billion in deals completed), cost management, transformation, innovation, business management systems, process improvement, enterprise risk management, organization performance and design & effectiveness. 

Lance has authored 32 points of view on various essential business topics as a strategist. Lance is also an expert in energy trends and market dynamics in Canada with over 100 citing's across multiple industry publications, national and international newspapers, and featured on BNN several times. Lance is also an opinion columnist and external advisory board member for CEOWORLD magazine.

Lance has an undergraduate degree from Exeter University, an MBA from Cardiff Business School is a Certified Management Consultant, a Certified Change Management Professional, a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt and a Project Management Professional. Lance completed a LEAD certificate in Corporate Innovation at Stanford GSB, advanced strategy at INSEAD, and an AI certificate from MIT.

In terms of community engagement, Lance is a Visiting Professor at the University of Calgary Haskayne School of Business and also serves on the Board of the Canadian Energy and Climate Nexus, a non-governmental, non-profit organization to help Canadians develop energy systems in balance with climate change constraints through collaborative problem-solving, collective commitment and action. 

Lance is also the author of Disaster Proof: Scenario Planning for Post Pandemic Future, which explores ways scenario planning can help organizations be more resilient, building shock absorbers at a time of great uncertainty and drastic change. It’s a practical how-to book that’s written for strategy teams in government and business, as well as planners, consultants, senior executives, and board members who need to ask better questions related to the future, uncertainty, risk, and strategy.
